DESCRIPTION BAKELITE Vinyl Acetate-Vinyl Alcohol Resin Solution BA-28-18 is a medium molecular weight vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol resin supplied at 28 per cent solids in butyl acetate. The 0.56 intrinsic viscosity resin contains 18 per cent vinyl alcohol. The resin is primarily used as a wood coating or lacquer modifier where toughness, adhesion, and gloss are major factors. High performance coatings, such as bowling alley finishes, are readily formulated using BAKELITE BA-28-18 and nitrocellulose or urethane prepolymer. The solvent system has a low order of toxicity, and is readily com patible- with brushed or sprayed coating systems. The resin is also reactive with glyoxal acetals, dimethylol urea, phenolic resins, urea/formaldehyde resins, melamine/formaldehyde resins, and similar materials. BAKELITE BA-28-18 is a superior thermoplastic bonding and laminating ad hesive though its application in this area is limited by the solvent carrier.
