Editions Thursday, February 3, 1972 PROPOSED RULEMAKING ON CRANE AND DERRICK SAFETY STANDARDS EXTENDED TO MAY 1 An extension to May 1 of proposed rulemaking proceedings on standards for boom angle indicators, load indicators, weight-moment indicators and overload protection devices on cranes and derricks was announced today by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). George C. Guenther, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health wtiu heads OSHA, said a notice of the proposed rulemaking was announced in the Federal Register on September 28. After consideration of public comments submitted in writing and orally at a hearing on November 10 and 11, the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health _ recommended that the record be reopened to permit further comments on the feasibality of the proposed standards, Guenther said. On December 31 the record was reopened until January 15, he said, "but since then we have received additional requests for more time. The Advisory Committee recommended a Luithur extension to May 1, and that recommendation has been accepted." Guenther said written comments on the proposed standards may be mailed to the OSHA uttice of Safety and Health Standards, Room 305, 400 First Street, N.W., Washington, D. C. 20210. # 9a
