LCG would utilize funding to implement its "Connecting Johnston: A Safer Street for Families and Futures" project. LCG is requesting $7.99 million to be matched with nearly $2 million in local funding. The project would enhance the section of Johnston Street between Bertrand Drive and Churchill Drive. The corridor currently lacks sufficient pedestrian infrastructure and has seen multiple serious or fatal accidents in recent years. LCG's proposed project would provide separated pedestrian walkways, highly visible crosswalks, reflective striping, and other roadway safety improvements. Additionally, this section of road is a major corridor for the Lafayette community. It supports hundreds of local businesses, 2,600 jobs, and contributes more than $500 million annually to the regional economy. These infrastructure improvements will benefit economic activity, in addition to safety, and expand access to significant destinations in the community. Again, I support LCG's application to the FY2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program.
