Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Sergeant La David T. Johnson
Sergeant La David T. Johnson of Miami Gardens, Florida, lost his life on October 4, 2017, along with three U S. Soldiers when their patrol was attacked in a deadly ambush in southwest Niger. Sergeant La David T. Johnson was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
As a mark of respect for Sergeant La David T. Johnson, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the City Hall in Miami Gardens, Florida, the County Courthouse in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, October 21, 2017. His funeral is tomorrow.
On October 7, 2017, Governor Scott announced that he would orderflags to be lowered to honor Sergeant La David T. Johnson. Please see the below statement issued on that day:
Governor Scott said, "Ann and I join Floridians across the state in honoring the lives of U.S. Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson and the other three U.S. soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and our freedom. We will never forget their heroic actions and our hearts break for their families and loved ones. We will continue to pray for the safety of all our brave military members across our country and abroad."
