Kehoe Dear Dr. Kehoe: Our safety engineers have recently supervised the cleaning or repairing of tanks having floating roofs in which a question arises upon which I should like to have your opinion. These tanks are customarily cleaned with the roof in a down position, that is from 1+to 6' off the "bottom. Workers congrjyayngupon the roof and open manheads for ventilation or remove the -nat plates and work of similar nature. I feel sure that when sudK^gppfak is gassy, a fire and explosion hazard exists around such openings. But the particular question I should like to ask you is whether or not, if such a tank contains significant amounts of organic lead, workmen operat ing as they customarily do without masks of any kind would he exposed to a lead hazard?
