Two recent developments have made these issues particularly topical: a July 18 Congressional oversight hearing at which concerns were raised about use of the Act to delay or prevent development and a proposal to list on the National Register of Historic Places, 109,000 acres (170 square miles) of state and private land, over the objection of private landowners. These and other implementation issues will be discussed. The session will include comments from invited federal agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Department of Transportation, Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior. Insights from the hearings and potential next steps that could be taken both administratively and legislatively will also be discussed. Karen Bennett will moderate the panel. The meeting is off the record, by invitation, and not open to the press.
