WD tank room AIW: AST..parts .HAZSHED 'midnight runs' "S Salvage drums Lead PEL'S cent. 28..OX * :i --" SAFETY MEETING A Safety Meeting was held July 28, 1995 at 10*35 a.m. with the following present: Ed Baranski Danny deCruz Manny Pimental Joe Scallin John Bettencourt Chuck Federico Charlie Pontes Dave Cookson Paula Kalafarski Sandy Rinebolt John Silva Dave commented that despite the severe hot weather, there have been no heat-related medical problems so far this summer. ' In Larry Rezendes* absence, Dave reviewed the Maintenance Safety Work Request Progress Report. There are only a few remaining outstanding requests to be taken care of. The AILl Monthly Training Report was reviewed; everything was in order. The list of Uorker 's-'Compensation Reportable Injuries for May and June 1995 was discussed. There were more accidents than usual, and in general it was not our best couple of months. There was a review of Norm Levin's Fire Reports for June and July. Joe Scallin asked John Bettencourt to take care of the repair of the fire door in the Tinning Room. John commented that this particular door was difficult to repair, as the door cannot be removed. Joe asked that John do the best he can, and also perhaps look into replacing that door with a different type, such as an overhang. Norm's July report noted that there were cans of flammable liquid being stored outside the flammable liquid cabinet in Dept. 14; that has since been taken care of. The year-to-date summary of the number of medical only and lost time work comp claims was reviewed. June and July's numbers are down from the previous two years but in terms of manhours numbers the actual percentage is pretty much the same. j Dave has ordered the film "Two Hands and Ten Fingers" which illustrates how to prevent hand injuries. Accompanying handouts are available, and Dave urged the foremen to show this film to their employees. Dave congratulated the foremen on collecting over $1000 worth of recyclable cardboard. McCaughey Standard will very soon be paying us for our efforts. Blood tests for selected departments, including Tinning, are soon to be scheduled. Sandy Rinebolt reminded the foremen how severe and lifethreatening heat stroke can be. She cautioned them to be on the lookout for the telltale symptoms of red face and no sweat. If anyone displays these symptoms, she urged the men not to take any chances and to call the rescue immediately. The issue of drinking alcohol, on off (break) time and off the premises, was discussed. Dave and Joe reminded the foreman to use caution should they encounter a situation of this nature.
