Per our d iscu ssio n I have shipped,you 4 tubes each o f Teflon 9450 I&T and Kevlar 7500 I&T yarn s. You have arranged f o r these samples to be braided in t o packing at Green Tweed, and then returned to P. E. Frankenburg f o r ev a lu a tio n on the la b o ra to ry packingJ i e s t e r . Please request Green Tweed to retu rn tube cores and any le ft o v e r yarn.
These yarns were heated 5 hours at about 190C in a p la n t bleaching oven to remove detectab le FC-143T Please examine these tubes and g ive me your op inion on t h e ir trade a c c e p t a b ilit y and needed improvements. We noted some d is c o lo r a tio n o f yarns and tube co re s, lo ss o f about 5-10% o f o i l from Teflon but not from Kevlar y a m s , and a tendency f o r the "Kevlar" yarn cake to s lid e o f f the core.
Our i n i t i a l r e s u lts showed 6/8 tubes in t o t a l den ier lim it s . (Table) Apparently, shrinkage o f "Teflon" forces o il to migrate outward, increasing to ta l d e n ie r o f surfa ce yarn and reducing core yarn denier. Work in progress w i l l show whether along end den ier u n ifo rm ity and "T e flo n " o i l le v e ls ( e s p e c ia lly at the core) are acceptable. We have not been able to measure te n s ile s on I&T yam s because o f slippage at the clamps, but heated I-o n ly "T e flo n " yam s showed in s ig n if ic a n t changes in te a n c ity and elon g atio n .
