Pulling Tower Pressure Safety Valves. 1.0 Objective: 1.1 To perform this task in a safe and efficient manner without damage to equipment or injury to personnel. 2.0 Responsibility: 2.1 It is the responsibility of the operations supervisor and the senior operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is fully complied with. 2.2 It is the responsibility of the senior operations specialist and the operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is executed in a safe and efficient manner. 3.0 Safety Notations: 3.1 Monogoggles, gloves, and a radio are required when performing this job. 4.0 Special Notations: 4.1 If at all possible these safety valves should be pulled while the towers are down for maintenance or series switch. If the plant is not down, the valves may be pulled while the plant is running under normal conditions. At no time can the plant be in startup or shutdown conditions without the safety valve in place. 4.2 On some of the towers, a 35 ton crane is needed for pulling the PSV. If so, this needs to be scheduled ahead or time. 5.0 Procedure: 5.1 To pull the PSV's with the tower still in service, the board person must monitor the column pressure continuously throughout the job duration, (that is while people are on . the tower pulling or installing the valve) 5.2 The operators performing the job must have a radio with them to communicate with the control room.
