Dear Dr. Kehoe: We duly received your letter of March 26th. I fully agree with the position y o u take in regard to -the installation of the Freedom Oil Works and Harry Kaley's lapse in making the first mix at Titusville.. I severely reprimanded him for doing this and immediately telegraphed you that we would have Ed Walter make a survey of the mix ing points in Pennsylvania, suggesting that Siebenthaler go along. Eddie is leaving this noon to do this. I am today addressing a letter to each of our field staff in accord with attached copy. We won't permit any infractions of your rules and regulations any more than you will and will take drastic; action here after when you have any complaint to make. I am putting a postscript on the letter that goes to Bob Jordan with regard to the Standard of Indiana, which situation is known to you. I hope that this covers the matter. Vie have credited your expense account to you With best regards, I am Yours very truly, 0000688 30 <m> a <o - o> o 1c March 26 1929 Mr* A* E. Mittnacht, Ethyl Gasoline Corporation 25 Broadway, Hew York City. Dear Mr* Mittnacht: 1 Thank yon for your letter of March 20 acknow ledging receipt of Dr* Brown*s bill* I have just wired you today in the matter of the Freedom Oil Works plant at Freedom, Pennsylvania. Dr* Machle has just returned from Pennsylvania and un~ fortunately we did not know about this plant or it could have been taken care of at that time. I am afraid it will be several days before we can get to this but will do it as quickly as possible* I will let you know by ,, wire as to when we can take care of Charleston, S. C* These things have been coming in thick and fast for the past two v/eeks and we are well nigh swamped with work at present, * There is one matter which I must bring to your attention and on which I should like to have you take 'immediate action. Dr* Machle did not bring back a very good impression of the mixing equipment at Titus ville and Oil City, and in order that we may know the exact details of their arrangement when they have final ly put things in order I am asking Mr* Siebenthaler to visit the three new points in Pennsylvania to bring back to me the exact conditions* It may be necessary to make certain recommendations when he comes hack but I shall not anticipate* The thing that is of Immediate importance, however, is the fact that Mr* Kaley made the first mix at Titusville without changing bis clothes* This came out entirely by accident and the superintendent apparently thought nothing of it* This is a serious mat ter and I should like to have Mr* Kaley sharply reprimand ed. I should like to know how he or we can expect these men to have a proper respect for the rules when our own men ignore them,, I recognize that it is inconvenient for any of our men to change their clothes but that in convenience is entirely no concern of mine. I am going to arrange things in the new plants (and have already at some) so that the representatives of the Ethyl Qasoline Corporation are denied permission to enter except as they abide by the rules, and I intend to make no ex ceptions whatever in this matter. I have talked long enough because I have talked to these men about this matter earnestly and courteously, and they will either do what I say in this matter or I111 make it hot for them. I wish you would also let him and some of the A, E, Mittnacht -2 March 26, 1929 other men know that we are going to check up on the new equipments that are installed and ev.ery one of .them that is not up to standard is going to cause trouble. If I find that these new equipments in Pennsylvania are not up to what they are supposed to be I am going to Instruct Mr, Slebenthaler to forbid their use until they are changed. There Is no excuse whatever for our installing at this late date unsatisfactory equipments and I will not accept any excuse on matters of cost, convenience, or any other matter* If the small users of ETHYL fluid can not afford to put In proper equipments they will simply have to stay out of the game* I enclose herewith my expense account for .my recent trip to Chicago which can be credited against my account since I am already in your debt. Very truly yours, RAKsEJ 0000630
