SUDAN
An agreement announced February 9 1976 has been signed
between Manville Gulf International Group of Kuwait and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Sudan for
the exploration and possible development of asbestos
deposits in the Sudan Under the agreement the Sudanese
government grants Manville and Gulf International licenses to explore for asbestos over approx 3861 sq miles
in the Blue Nile and Kassala province for an month to three year period If exploration results prove favorable the parties would form a joint venture for the mining and marketing of asbestos fiber Manville would manage the mining operations and market the fiber for the joint
venture
The estimated investment to produce 100,000 tons of Group 4 fiber is 120 million The estimated start would be 1980 based on 3 years of exploration activities and 2 years construction and start
ABITIBI ASBESTOS MINING CO - LTD QUEBEC CANADA
Owns a large undeveloped asbestos deposit at Maizerets
Township near Amos Quebec In 1972 Brinco Ltd. entered
into an agreement with Abitibi whereby it could acquire a
majority interest in the program was completed in
property The 1973. Further
initial evaluation study continued in
1974 and 1975 toward determining if commercial development
of the deposit would be economically viable Brinco issued
a report in August 1975 which estimated that before financing
and certain working capital requirements it would cost about
million Canadian to bring the A deposit into
production by 1978. The operating model on which the estimate
is based envisages mining million short tons of asbestos-
bearing rock at a maximum rate of million tons per year The open operation would support an annual milling rate of million tons and a total throughput of million tons
of asbestos rock with an average gross value of
9.00 per ton based on January 1975 fiber prices
The probability of the deposit coming in by 1980 is good
- Estimated production could be 200,000 tons divided as follows

BOLIVIA- Crocidolite
The existence of asbestos in a 100 sq kilometer area in
Chapare Province Department of Cochabamba Bolivia has been known for over fifty years although no significant development work has been done until recently
A mechanized project was begun in Cochabamba in 1975 toward obtaining a concentrate of 90 to 98 asbestos by manual selection Ultimately the Association of Producers of Asbestos was formed to promote the production of asbestos to be of mutual assistance to local miners to establish standards and classifications and to guarantee quantities quality and delivery to national foreign customers It is assumed the major market will be the Andean Pact countries Production projections are 2000 tons in 1976 and 10,000 tons by 1978
MC ADAM MINING CORPORATION LTD|
Has an asbestos property at Roberge Lake McCorkill Township near Chibougamau Quebec A study of the deposit continues by Rio Tinto Canadian Explorations Ltd. In light of encouraging results thus far the engineering consulting firm of Geco Ltd. was retained early this year to
completely evaluate the project A complex is envisioned that is capable of producing 100,000 tons of fiber per year
The tonnage could be divided as follows
