Time 9:00 AM LLA 000885 / REDACTED Asbestos Monitoring In response to several Inquiries from operating telephone companies, Hr Schreibeis researched the availability of direct reading instruments chat might be used to perform basic screening for asbestos exposures. Commercial models of respirable dust counters have been available for some time, buc these instruments would not provide a reading of fibers present in the air. A new last rument has recently been marketed that provides a direct readout of fibers, however, it does not distinguish asbestos fibers from other fibers, nor is it approved by NIOSH at the present time. It does not appear that this Instrument would be of sufficient value at present to justify its purchase price of approximately $10,000. J. M. Degen Secretary LLA 000886
