INTEROFFICE / LAKE CHARLES
DATE June 2, 1981 SUBJECT May 28 VCM Release
I
Additional notes on the May 28 VCM release in the VCM Storage Area:
1. The SRV was in fact set at 150 psig, not 100 psig. The lead tag was covered with paint and hard to read.
2. The set pressure (as determined by the Offsites Team) was to be 200 psig with a 50 psi back pressure, or a 150 psig valve setting. The 50 psi back pressure is a developed back pressure and would be present only when the valve is relieving. So, the valve would relieve at 150 psig. Balanced bel lows SRV's were installed, so the back pressure would have no effect anyway.
3. The VCM transfer pump at VCM-II deadheads at 400 ft. of head, or 155 psigAP, with a design discharge pressure of up to 195 psig.
4. Per Don Savoy and Nix Bodden, who did the original design, the entire trans fer piping system is capable of withstanding 275 psig, the maximum rating of the flanges. Springs have been ordered to raise the settings of the 4 SRV's (2 on each transfer line) to 275 psig. Rupture discs rated at 275 psig will also be installed.
5. The SRV which relieved has been reset at 175 psig, the maximum allowable for the existing spring.
.6 The VCM Storage Operator will be instructed to maintain sufficient recir
culation on VCM transfer pump operation to keep the pump discharge pressure below 135 psig until the SRV's can be re-rated.
