Dear Mr Sefcovic, SPECTARIS is the German industry association for optics, photonics, analytical and medical technology based in Berlin. The association represents 400 predominantly medium-sized German companies. In 2022 the sectors consumer optics, photonics, medical technology, and analytical, bio- and laboratory technology generated total sales of around 84 billion euros and employed around 342,000 people. We hereby invite you to a working breakfast on October, 24 (8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m.) at the European Representation of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg (Rue Belliard 60/62,1040 Brussels). Topic of this meeting will be the currently discussed proposal for a universal PFAS restriction. A universal PFAS restriction would make the use of indispensable highperformance materials impossible in many cases and massively endanger technological sovereignty and security of supply in the EU. Therefore, SPECTARIS would like to discuss the implications of a potential PFAS ban in Europe. We are glad that renowned SPECTARIS member companies such as ZEISS (MedTech, photonics), KARL STORZ (MedTech) and BRAND (Laboratory), - all of them based in the German region of Baden-Wuerttemberg - have agreed to give practical insight into their business and the PFAS discussion. They represent a vast portion of European high-tech industries. The working breakfast will begin with an opening statement by the Managing Director of SPECTARIS, resuming the first learnings with regard to the ECHA consultation. This will be followed by the practical examples of our member companies that would be directly affected by a universal PFAS restriction. The event will conclude with a round table for mutual exchange. We are looking forward to constructive discussions with you. Please let us know if you will participate in the event by replying to this e-mail address (presse@spectaris.de).
