'>!ke' 0 < 1 l> idbl SUBJECT: USER STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR ASBESTOS-CEMENT PRESSURE PIPE Dear Tad, Referring to your letter dated July 9, 1981 to Frank Duffy under the above subject, the following are our comments on the specification: Paragraph 7b - At times it may be advisable for plants to perform the hydrostatic hurst tost on a. full length of pipe with machined ends. As this is a more severe test, we pro pose that this be included, as an option to testing a one foot vr.machined. section of pipe. We propose that line 7 be extended, to read: "In lieu of the one foot sample test, the contractor shall have the option of testing machined end pipe to the same requirements with external seals against the outside diameter of the machined eras permitted". Paragraph 7c - The referer.ee to ASTM on line 10 should read Section 11.1.1. Paragraph 7d - The reference to ASTM on line A should read Section 8. Paragraph 8a (2) - In late 1977, the Bureau issued a supplement to their 10/15/77 specification wherein the Wall thicJcr.ess requirements were changed and in our opinion they were more realistic. REVISIONS TP SPECIFICATICHS Section 4.4.lb (2) - This section concerns the testing of joints ho.ving a rubber gasket of other than a circular cross section. As we interpret the requirements, the test pressure for the joint tests is 800 feet of water or MG psi regardless of the class of pipe joint. Also, the government has the right to witness tests cn avj or all of the pipe sir.es and head classes to be furnished. He feel that the required test pressure should vary with the head class being tested such as 50% of the burst pressure. For example, if a test was required for class A/C 50, it would, not be practical to test at 800 feat of water whan the burst pressure of the pipe is 695 feet of water.
