The cans were tran sp orted to th e feed area se rv in g Draw Machine Number h. The nylon from ten p id d lin g cans was manually threaded through rin g gu id es le ad in g to the Draw Machine. There the stran d s were t i e d to a le a d e r in sid e the Draw Machine Chamber. The Draw ne was sta rte d and th e nylon was drawn by p a ssin g over draw r o l l e r s kept a t 60 - 5 C. The nylon emerged from the Draw M achine^nndpafised through a crimping machine where a 1# so lu tio n &S ^ overlay. This solution is e sse n tia lly Squeezed o ff during crimping and the drawn rope i s p id d led in to a c o lle c tin g box. During the f i n a l c o lle c tin g , a trem per descends a t frequent in te rv a ls to compress the crimped rope so th a t an acceptable amount o f the nylon can be c o lle c te d in each box. omnamr no*contain TSCA CBI nhserved Exposures or Potential Exposures Odors of acetic acid were detected a t: ^ the open drum containing t b e ^ m H ^ the applicator boxes of the spinning machine when i i S a S T . . r e op, for clcming i f tie operator . t ie piddling ran e t t c Q U B n e applied to the nplon An aerosol and outlet o>; if l|^ esnn< a so w as f th j e la B ig R l^y v isib le pip! plicator ou a tsid e the inlet Manual contact with the rope occurred w "8' drawbox threading, crimper threading and fin a l piddling/ o S e S i o i r Theoperator ho doffed the r a * * * / piddling can wore a leather glove on the hand used to gr _ the rone The operator who was cleaning the applicator bxe o f thePspinningMachine wore ru b b er gloves on both hands. Air sampling for ac etic acid should be done near t b -- * ^ d S i i ^ t the applicator b o a . while the how door. are open. < Air sampling for t o t a l particulate should be done at the point o f h ig h estaerp so l v is ib ilit y within one foot of each end o f t h d J j|^ a p p lie a t o r box. * iiSSLfS'iSS fin ish , and^the tran sfer o f some o f the fin ish suggest that leather gloves continue to be worn to minimize oAhersnee of other m aterials to the hands. Conclusions Except fo r the items discussed, the operation appeared well controlled iith no problems. -------- , -- T-d----------- -- )uncan T .
