Kehoe has recently submitted to the Public Health Service a report(^)on tetramethyl lead (TML) in gasoline covering - test.work conducted at California refinery and service station locations. Based on this, and on earlier work conducted and reported by Dr. Kehoe,(^) we conclude that tetramethyl lead and tetraethyl lead (TEL) are no different from the standpoint of their possible effects on the' public health. Some of our oil refining customers would like to be free to increase the concentration of TML in gasoline. We therefore propose to raise the maximum permissible TML level, on a grams of elemental lead per gallon of g'asoline basis, to the same value as is currently in effect for TEL. Also, we propose that the same maximum concen tration of elemental lead per gallon of gasoline should apply to mixtures and reaction products of TML and TEL. The current and proposed maximum concentrations of lead alkyls in gasoline are as follows: ml.
