ESTERS MANUFACTURING PROCESS DESCRIPTION Ruco's production of esters at the Hicksville, New York site centers around high boiling, low volatility specialty monoesters and polyesters. Our primary customers include those in the wire and cable and urethane industries. Manufacturing versatility is a requirement to meet customers' demands. The production facilities consist of five reactor trains: A - 1000 gallon, B,C,D - 2000 gallon and E - 7500 gallon. The 7500 gallon reactor train is presently under construction with a start-up expected in March, 1980. In either monoester or polyester reactions, an alcohol and an acid are mixed with a catalyst, heated, and subjected to a high vacuum until the product achieves a low water content, a product of the reaction, and a low alcohol content. The product is filtered and cooled, then stored in indoor storage facilities. In order to achieve the excellent cycle time and yield, the sequence and duration of operations are periodically evaluated and modified if possible.
