We aea Issuing the y -900 line to reduce the lead to conform to laws specifying less than 0.9# lead in the dried film. These formulas will be made on the Cowles or sand mill except for the Y-988 which must be ground on the pebble mill because of the iron blue.
Two drier combinations were chosen as the best candidates for our dry studies. These are cobalt-airconium and cobalt-active 6. At equal dry to the standard* cobalt-active 8 produced a greenishbrown tint and 239 per gallon increase in cost. This was unsatis factory. The cobalt-xirco combination at equal dry raised the cost 39 per gallon, Huact paste (drier feeder) will be reduced from 5 pounds to 4 pounds per 100 gallons.
brier studies were also made without Huact paste to represent sero lead levels, it is hoped that we will find that drier stability on aging will be much better when using sirconium In place of lead. We understand this to be true but must prove it out in our vehicle system, if Huact can be removed from the formulas* costs will decrease 1.59 per gallon.
