Installing new jacket over good asbestos - Negative pressure enclosure not required. Monitor to prove exposure is below the action level? Tes Negative pressure enclosures are required for all large scale jobs irrespective of the perceived condition of the asbestos. Glove bag usage would be required for small scale jobs if the maintenance procedure would conceivably release asbestos to the atmosphere. 2. Only exception for small jobs is that shower can be remote from work si te? Remote showers are only applicable to small scale (glove bag) jobs. 3. Can remote shower be same as shower used by other or does it have, to be dedicated to asbestos workers? Dedicated showers are recoimiended to prevent the exposure of other personnel who would be in the shower area to asbestos. 4. Is shower required before eating? Showering is required before eating. 5. Do we have to have head covers? Yes, the standard states that head covering must be worn. 6. Do we have to have shoe covers or are rubber boots acceptable? . Rubber boots are exceptable for outdoor jobs but shoe covers are recommended for large scale jobs in negative pressure areas to expedite clean up. 7. Is protective clothing required on glove-bag jobs? Protective clothing is not mandatory on glove bag jobs but it is recommended that disposables be worn to prevent employee exposure if the glove bag ruptures. 8. If we must have dedicated hygiene facilities, can we have one for entire plant? It is recommended that the plant should have one dedicated and transportable shower facility at a minimum. 9. Competent person is required for large scale jobs only? A competent person is required for all large scale jobs. UCC 020050 2- - 10. Contractor will supply competent person for their jobs? Contractors must supply a competent person for their jobs. 11. Plant will have at least one competent person? A competent person who has responsibility for plant jobs plus a back-up competent person is probably sufficient. 12. Qualitative fit testing must be repeated every six months? All types of respirators? The fit testing frequency is every six months for half mask face pieces which will be used in asbestos service at the S. C. Plant. 13. Medical certification must be repeated every year? Yes, medical certiffcation is required for personnel who use respirators and are potentially exposed on an annual basis. 14. What hygiene practices for small scale jobs? Requirements vary with jobs. Glove bags jobs will allow the usage of remote showers with vacuuming after job completion. Mini-end osures will require the same hygienic practices as large scale jobs. 15. Would like to be able to leave in street clothes - after vacuuming take-off coveralls?
