A very slight increase in the Brilliant Oreen B * Thioflavine dye ratio is used to give a very slightly bluer ff& toner* 2* The PM4 ocopies and dye volumes in the Phi toner are increased by 1$ to conform to thooe used in OS-599** This apparently helped to ollmiaato definite tendencies toward wsnkaess and dullness of tint* 3* The sodium molybdato solution is stirred at least mao-half hour during the pH adjustment in order to insure equilibrium* This change has given a definitely stronger Pitt toner and a somewhat stronger end bluer lake* 4* The Pitt toner is vat unshod (2 waters) before extending* This . also has beam used ia GB-599-D to give a aero duplicable product* 5* The batch else io cut 12 to fit available equipment* The Pitt oomplex vat (Tat 309) 1* the limiting factor; as soon as a projected larger replacement for this small vat is available it will be possible to revert to the original K-2219 batch cite* An even greater increase in batch would alee be possible and should be considered when the new vat is instilled* mmmm&hjmm Semi-Berks and Plant - DSN-46-25. SLOSSARY <2-650-D| An extended color containing approximately 6 l/2$> of a M toner of Brilliant Orson B and Thioflavine TCN in a ratio of 1*9 to 1* The extender is n mixture of Clay* Blanc fixe, and "Ti-Fure* IT in a ratio of 8*8 - l*f - 1*0* About 2p of "Lithosol" yellow GPI is also used to obtain the desired shade* 06-599*0 Similar to OB-650-^ except that the eolored pigment content is out to 5*8j of the PM tenor and l*6j of the "Lithosoi" yellow GPI. After a snail amount of laboratory and SemUVerks study this color was taken to the plant for standardisation* Some time was spent in straightening out strength difficulties* but finally a standard based an a composite of five plant batches was set up and coded QE-650-D* A rubout oonpaiisaa of the GE-650-D standard* lot 46950* versus the laboratory standard follows! lot 46950 ts K-2219* vs olivs - OK - vs dirty* Light stability! equal A new GE-650-D standard formula* K-2293* based on the procedure used in setting up the new standard was than written and supervision of production was turned over to the plant in April* 1946* flEJBSSmi The single Betsi-^orks batoh made at 1/4 the standard K-2219 batch sias was a fairly close chaok to the laboratory standard* In the plant* however* considerable difficulty was experienced with maintaining strength in the early work* Of toabbatehos made to cheek the K-2219 formula only two ware satisfactory to ship as GE-650-D when oospared with the laboratory standard* The remaining eight batches averaged 13# weak and dirty in tint* Five of these substandard batches were subsequently shipped straight to fill ordersfor the wefcher product* QB-599-D, Based on previous experience with GE-599-D an attempt was mads to correct the tinting strength deficiency by vat washing the flraen Pitt, toner before extending* The strength improvement van only minor* One of the four batches made with this modification was shipped straight* The remaining three batohes were satisfactory only as SB-599** Experience with increasing the strike concentration on the Green Flfk toner in Ctt-599* had shewn that consistently weak results wars obtained with plant triale of three time# standard esneentratlea* Although the FMA toner ae need in the K-2219 formula had only a 15# increase in concentration ever that of the normal CBB-599-D type toner it was decided to revert to the exact PMA toner size used in CBS-599-D. This necessitated a rat ia the SBpdjfO-D batch site of approximately 12# (968# instead of 1100#) A definite quality improvement was noted almost at onosi this together with other refinements ia the process (see below) have helped to maintain a high OK straight performance on this color* DUP050150422
