MINUTES of ths OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH 4 SAFETY COMCTCEE MEETING NATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION New York, Now York More* 13, 1966 Fort of the Occupational Health k Safat/ Committee act with t part of the Duct Coanlttee. The transaction* of this mating as reported by Mr. J. M. Barnhart are attached. -Following this combined netting, there waa a brief Meting of the Occu pational Health k Safety Comittee. The following persona were present; L. B. Grant, X.0 C. L. Sheckler F. 8. Edvards H. Mailer J. Vyvtrberg PPG Industries Johns-ManviUe Owens-Coming Rubtrold Owens-Coming Mr. Sheckler indicated that the work of the Education Subcommittee waa progressing satisfactorily. The asbestos paaphlet had been prepared and circulated for coanents and/or approval. Die fiber glass paaphlet will be available for full coanlttee review early in April, hr. Grant pointed out that it was his understanding that both these paaphlets and tha Educational Frograa for the coming year were to be reviewed at a seating of tha full coo&ittee. This was not done with the asbestos paaphlet. Or. Grant's ex perience was that the tint limitation set for review by the subccaaittee had passed before he had had a chance to review the paaphlet. He felt this was unfortunate iaasaich as he would hare liked to have seen either s reference to pre-eoployment and periodic medical examination! of the workers or a specific limitation clearly indicating that the scope of the paaphlet did not Include medical control procedures. As the paaphlet is at the present time, it will invite justified criticise by the aedical profession. Mr. Sbeckler is of the opinion that cements with reference to aedical ex aminations were inappropriate to include in the ps^hlct. This reflects s basic dissgreenant within the coaalttee which must be resolved at a later meting of the full eomlttee. Although it wes discussed, no action was deehled upoe to resolve this basic difference of opinion. The fiber glass pellet draft prepared by the Education Bubccoaittse will be reviewed at e cosoittee- netting in lew York on April 16, 1966. Mr. tf.* X. Barnhart wished to be advised on bow he should handle requests coning to bin for assistance in health related problems. She following general philosophy was agreed upon: le should first direct such requests to the manufacturer of the product in question. However, if no manufacturer can be identified or if tha manufacturer of the produet apeciflcally re quested IXKA support, he should direct the request to Or. Grant, Chairman of the Occupational Xeaith 4 Safety rnmnlttii. for appropriate action. -2 Tha current research proposals on fiber (liu prepared by the Industrial Hygitnt foundation vara briefly discussed. As < raault, it was apparent that there vara a ounfear of questions that taeh company who had been asked to support tht work vlahad to hava tha opportunity of discussing In a gen* oral Stating with tha Industrial Hygiene foundation and rapraaantativaa of tha companies vhoaa support vaa being solicited. Dr. Grant agreed to cos* tact &r. dtTrtrlUt, tha Managing Dlractor of tha Industrial Kygisnt founds* tion, and suggtst such a seating. Respectfully submittad, L. B. Grant, M. D.
