Vern Zeitz and the writer met with Prof. W. Burgess and Ms. M. Boundy at the Harvard School of Public Health on April 22nd to provide our comments on the preliminary draft 3/15/77 of their proposed paper
All comments and suggestions furnished by Windsor and J & J were discussed in detail with Burgess and Boundy They were very receptive to our suggestions and agreed to incorporate them into the final draft
Major amendments for highlighting are
1
tremolite is generally asbestiform and should not
be referred to in a biased manner as an amphibole
form of asbestos
2 various corrections in trade terminology
3
the official quartz TLV of 100
gwill be mentioned
instead of only the NIOSH recommended value
The recorded high values of respirable quartz will be qualified as being typical
4.
the term elongated fibers is to be used vs. true
fibers
Bill Burgess agreed to send us their written which will be principally the following
conclusions
1
the bulk and environmental samples verify that the
Vermont talc contain no asbestos and only negligible
quartz
2. the phase contrast fiber counting technique is alright for the asbestos industry but cannot be applied to
talc
