Pfeifer - Toledo*/ In reading through the abstracts of papers presented at the recent conference on Biological Effects of Asbestos sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences, we note (and you mentioned this in our conversation) that there is some circumstantial evidence that associated hydrocarbons nay be the carcinogenic agent involved* If this is true, the asbestos as contained in Kaylo and other autoclaved calciua silicate products should be benign in this respect. Any such oils and organics would in all probability be destroyed or driven off in the autoclaving process. One wonders if Smith and Hiller at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, New Jersey, for instance, would be interested in testing asbestos recovered from Kaylo and from J. H. Thermobestos. Kaylo is now about twenty-two years old, and a few workers have been associated with its manufacture from its inception and shortly after.
