From: Mr. B Subject: Vinyl Chloride Monitoring Plant Laboratory Area, Building 137 Room 109 and 214 Resin Samples From Solvent Resin Unit, Building 152 South Charleston Plant Project No. 514-H-106-74 Recent environmental grab samples collected by Messrs R. L. Barker and H. C. Stemple during laboratory analyses of varnish resin from the Solvent Vinyl Resin Unit showed Vinyl Chloride concentrations to be <50 ppm. The concentrations ranged from <0.05 to 46 ppm Vinyl Chloride vapor in air. To comply with the Emergency Temporary Standard now in effect for exposures to Vinyl Chloride personnel monitoring is required. At your earliest convenience we would like to initiate the personal monitoring program whereby the analyst will wear a small vacuum pump connected to a glass tube containing activated charcoal which adsorbs any Vinyl Chloride vapor present.
