Our Sep tember allocation from Union Carbide is expected to ship at the end of this week to Acme. This was originally scheduled for Marietta but changed because of Acme's lower inventory position. Our October car is scheduled to ship to Marietta about October 9. After Marietta advised they would run out by October 13 it was deemed advisable to transfer 20M pounds of SG210 from Akron to hold them until their car arrived and this material is now e iroute. Two cars of 7RF-02 asbestos were received during September, 1 each to Akron and Marietta with a total of 161,600 pounds which gives us a gain of 42,100 pounds in inventory for September. Two cars of 7RF-02 are enroute at this writing - one car shipped on 9/22 to Milford and one went out on 9/30 to Marietta. There is some question at this writing whether J-M will let us have more than one car of 7RE-02 asbestos in October and there is a possi bility that we might not really need it. ELA/mf CC: Messrs. G. Gorki11 subject Asbestos location location date Portland Portland October 15 Our sales people in Shreveport and Salt Lake City have tust reported to Howard Schutte at Acme that our competition in those areas state that It is a requirement of the federal government that asbestos be out of all joint compounds, including Ready Mix, by January 1. To the best of my knowledge, this is not die case. The competitors making this announce ment have an asbestos-free Ready Mix. Would you please bring us up to date on this subject, Jim. Burch subiect ASBESTOS ^ location Portland location Portland date October 16, 1975 At the recent Eastern Operations Meeting I mentioned to Bill Lehnert that com petition in the East was informing their customers that asbestos would have to be eliminated from all Joint Cement products by January 1st, 1976. I asked Bill if there was anything to this. Now we hear from Howard Schutte that the same information is being circulated in other areas of the country. Bill said that new limitations to become effective July 1st, 1976 make it very doubtful that we will be able to continue using asbestos simply because we will not be able to handle the material in the plants and comply with these new standards. In view of the fact that we are hearing -from several different areas- this January 1st date, I would like to have us check to be sure that we haven't missed something.
