Lawton, 'JrT , 10/5/62 As a result of the incident reported by AEG, the Action taken by SRP (9/28/62) to prohibit the usa of litharge And glycerin is Justifiable from a ssfety staid point. Design concurs with this Action in view of the danger iapllcAtions, though remote, end proposes to delete the use of litherge end glycerin compounds from the current Piping Engineering Standard. This Engineering Stenderd (P25E) Du Pont Code J-2, which covers the use of pipe joint compounds, lists "fifteen" different--types of materials for various services. Con sequently it gives many Alternate selections with an ample choice to meet field conditions. V. D. Webb, Chairman of the Pipe, Valve and Pitting* Sub committee, and R. V. Dannehl, Standards Engineer, have been apprised of your report and will review the subject at the next Committee meeting on October 25, 1962.
