VAN HARTESVELDT 6402 CEDAR AVENUE CLEVELAND 3, OHIO 23555 EUCLID AVENUE Cleveland 17, Ohio March 23, 1943 Dr. Robert A. Xehoe Kettering Laboratory of PathologyUniversity of Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio Dear Dr. Xehoe: Under separate cover I am sending you the emulsifying base from which we make the inhibitor for our methanol-water-tetraethyl lead anti-detonant. The complete inhibitor is made by mixing l/B part by volume of the emulsifying base with 3/3 parts by volume of kerosene as called for in step #1 in the attached mixing procedure. The emulsifying base is comprised of fatty acid soaps and sulphonates mixed with oil. When used as called for in the mixing procedure,it makes an emulsion of the anti-detonant solution which is effective in coating metal parts with an oil film thereby preventing corrosion. This second phase of oily soaps may be helpful in coating the skin also. For your work the kerosene for the inhibitor as well as the methanol-water and tetraethyl lead is probably available to you locally. If you would like us to supply any of these ingredients we will be glad to do so. Our commercial program is well underway and there is every promise that it will grow rapidly. We are looking forward to receiv ing your advice. Best regards. Very truly yours, CHVH:sg ce: A. T. Colwell J. N. Cole C. H. Van Hartesveldt 0020699
