Office Center 417-05-19 On September 4, 5 and October 8, 1980, the writer conducted the semiannual asbestos survey at Trenton Chemical Friction Products. The sampling results are recorded on the attached data sheet and indicate that with the exception of one work location, all samples are below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit of 2 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. The sample taken at Bipel #2 with the cooperation of has a result of 2.3 fibers/cc. This job was re evaluated on October 8. Multiple samples were obtained, and a time-weighted average of 1.0 fiber/cc was determined. It is the opinion of the writer that the variation in sampling results may be attributed in dissimilar work practices used by the two employees in loading the hot press cassettes. The writer observed that 4k^^0 consistently slammed the cassette cover down onto the tray after loading. This force ful action disperses debris and loose fibers from the surface of the cassette and into the air. was observed closing the cassette covers with much greater care. The results are self evident and hot press operators should be cautioned to exercise greater care in loading cassettes. Medical examinations will be required as per the memo randum of R. 0. McIntosh, M.D. and G. A. Sattelmeier (Inter Company Correspondence dated July 3, 1979) for 16 of the 20 employees who were sampled.
