I contacted Dick Yfareham of Special A sbestos Company yesterday, and we d iscu ssed the following points: 1 . He thinks this m aterial is anthophyllxte and not cxocidolite, although it iB b lu e -g ra y in c o lo r. T h e re a r e l a r g e qu an tities of this m aterial av ailable if w e can u se it. 2 . Mozambique - T h ere is no possibility of obtaining asb esto s from this source in the foreseeab le future. The mine is located in the d istrict where m ost of the g u e rrilla activity ar.d killin gs have o ccu rre d and it is not now in operation. T h e re is no way of obtaining an e stim ate a s to when p ro duction might resu m e. 3 . A nglo-Putch A sb e sto s Company - T h is is the South. A frican m ine from which w e a r e presen tly obtaining asb e sto s. W arehatn said he talked to M r. E v erin gb am , the ow ner o f the m ine, two w eeks ag o , and he gave no indication that the mine is d o sin g . He said that this m ine signed a contract with the FinnB se v e r a l y e a rs ago to supply asb e sto s at a p r ic e that i s very low by today' s stan dards. T h is contract w ill expire next Jan u ary, and he believes they m ay be trying to get out of supplying a sb e sto s at the low p rice. He w ill c a ll the m anager of G en eral Mining, which iB the com pany he rep resen ts, to check on the Anglo-Dutoh situation. A.
