The problem has been to improve the Joint compound's working and decorative properties. We have solved these problems by using a new adhesive that Monsanto has developed. This material Is a modified polyvinyl alcohol called RS-6219. The new adhesive replaces both the Gelva D-702 and Celvatol 20*30 BP in the One Day. Not only does the RS-6219 replace two raw materials, but we can use IX less adhesive to get the sane bonding properties that the pre vious materials gave us. This leads to a coat savings of approxi mately $2/ton. In our lab Investigations the new adhaslvn has parformed admirably, giving excellent bonding roeolts In relative humidity, cold and room temperature bonding taste. 80 hevm found that the working properties of the joint compound hove improved greatly and are equal to U.S.G.'s Durabond 90. The lab teats have also shown ua that the One Day can now be pointed or hove a texture sprayed over it without shadowing or burn through of the Joint. We would like you to have the Joint system pleat make up a trial batch of One Day using this new sdhaslve. It is our understanding that you have 300 lbs of the RS-6219 at Acme for tasting purposes; therefore, It should be no problem for the pleat to make up a batch for field testing. Mr. Eugene O'Neill will handle the field trials; so, when you have the material made, please let him know so ha can finalize the field testing arrangements. I personally would Ilka to have one bag of the material saot to Tigard so ms can check It. All the bags should be designated as a special material and held at the plant until Gene lets you know where and when to ship It.
