InstrumentatiounsedforwatermeasurementsisdescribeidntheEnvironmentalConditions sectionofthisreport. At testinitiatitohne,neonatemysidswerecarefullcyollectefdromthecultureasnd transferreodne andtwo ata timetoglassbeakers.Mysids thenwere transferrefdrom thebeakerstothetestcompartments.AR transfers were made usinga wide-borepipettbeelow thesurfacoef thewater.The mysidswere fedlivebrineshrimp nauplitihreetofourtimesa dayduringthetestopreventcannibalis(mexcepton thelastday ofthetest). The dilutewras adjustesdo thateachtestchamber receivedapproximately11volumeaddition6sftestwater every24 hours.The deliverpyump was calibratebdeforethetestandatapproximatelwyeeklyintervaldsuring thetest.The generaloperatioonfthedilutewras checkedvisuallaytleastwo timesperday duringthetestand once attheend ofthetest. Priortosexualmaturitym,ysidswere heldinone comparunentplacedineachreplicatteestchamber (15/compart3nentT)h.e compartmentswere glassbeakerswithnylonmesh screenattachedto two holeson oppositesides.Aftermysids attainedsexualmaturity,reproductivpeairswere placedin reproductive compartments(onepairpercompartment).The reproductivceompartmentswere glasspetridisheswithsidesof nylonmesh screenattachewdithsiliconaedhesive.The testcompartmentswereplacedin9-L glassaquariatest chamberscontaininagpproximatel5yL oftestsolutionP.riortopairingt,hedepthofwaterinarepresentative testcompartmentwas 6.2cm. Afterpairingt,hedepthofwaterina representatitveestcompartmentwas 5.5cm. The testchamberswereimpartiallpyositioneidna temperature-controueendvironmentaclhamber designedto maintaina temperaturoef252'C. BiologicaOlbservationsand Measurements Observationosfthesurvivaalndbehaviorofeachfirst-generatmiyosnidwere made dailythroughouthe test.The criterfioardeathincludedlackofmovement, absenceofrespiratormyovements,and lackofreactiotno gentleprodding.At thetimeofpairing(Day 20),thesexand maturitoyfeachmysidwas determinedby microscopicexaminationa,nd,when possible5,male/femalepairsweremade foreachreplicatteestchamber.
