I've spent 37 very satisfying years of my life working for BP and for its predecessor company Amoco, and I've learned a lot about our business and how it fits into the world. I enjoyed myself immensely and I flatter myself that I contributed in some small way to the benefit of both our shared enterprise and the world in general. Much of my satisfaction derives from working with people like you: interesting, intelligent, and motivated to create value through our shared work. We haven't always seen the world from the same angle, but I was gratified that we always seemed to have the same overarching vision. While I'll miss interacting with you, I'm sure you'll continue to do well, and I send my best wishes for your continued health, growth, and fulfillment. I have no exotic plans for retirement - no round-the-world trips, no second act businesses. But I hope to read more, ride my bicycle more, explore more of the world, catch up on deferred maintenance around the apartment (Ellen's legendary "honey-do" list), pester our two adult sons more about their plans, and spend more time with my 91-year-old Dad. To kick things off, Ellen has booked us a bicycle trip down the Moselle River in late June. Apparently, they make some wine there.
