Scheuerle - Berlin Bob Shirley of Carey-Canadian Mines called last week and in a very secretive way told me that it would be advisable for us to write him a letter outlining our intended requirements for 4t asbestos through 1971. I asked Bob whether he anticipated a shortage, and he replied that we would be taken care of and this letter would simply serve as insurance of that fact. I don't know exactly what 3ob is up to, and I personally do not like to have to ta'ke a defensive posture as he is suggesting that we do. You will recall that for. several years National Gypsum has offered to sell us their low chloride 4t fiber, discounted by 10$. They have indicated that several hundred tons of this material would be available during 1971. I ask that Shannon immediately set out on a program to qualify National Gypsum material and advise me when it will be completed.
