Lewis Dear Mr. Lewis: Thank you for your letter of March 30 with attached information circular on jobber tanks. I do not believe that all of this information is necessary or even advisable at the present time. What we are primarily interested in learning now is the number of tanks at the jobber locations and how frequently they are cleaned. The answer to the first question should offer no difficulty. In regard to the second question it would be of interest to note how the cleaning was carried out, namely, by flushing, scraping from the outside or by men v/ho enter the tank. I believe all of the necessary information can be condensed into three questions: (1) The number of tanks that have contained leaded gasoline. (2) Frequency of cleaning. . (3) Do men enter the tanks at time of cleaning. We do not intend to make a complete survey of tank cleaning methods in the case of the jobber tanks as we are doing with the tanks at blending or spiking locations and until such time as it seems advisable to accumulate such information that will be specifically indicated as a consequence of the detailed study now in progress, I believe the less information we ask for the more likely we are to obtain it.
