Pin. S. M. Wagner, Los .Angeles, Calif. Dear San: I checked with the 332nd Ordnance a little more on stoves and found that the 5^6th Ordnance Compan3r was. now taking care of the stoves. There seemed to be several opinions as to troubles and which was the most serious. Of course everyone says that more trouble is encountered with a leaded fuel as against an unleaded fuel. One of the main troubles recently is that they have run out of filters and have had to operate without them. They told me thv had an order of 250,000 of them coming in for this camn. They do not have any method of cleaning exceot with a wire brush and something thin to get into the burner slots. I believe that the most serious trouble is with the generating tube and adjusting valves. These become clogged and they cannot get the Draper mixture at the burner. It looks to me like it is a temperature condition and that a change in trnnnerature might cure the trouble. The deposit in the slots in the burners looks very much like what is on ton of the exhaust valves. The process which w have for cleaning exhaust valves should do a job on these burners. I would like to try some SodiumHydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide, which cleans valves very nicely. If you would send me out a half pound of each I would like to try it on a burner I have here. The center slots in the burners clog up the quickest, and this is the hottest part. The end slots never clog up, which means that they are at a temperature where the denosit does not form. Would like to have any information on the new model you may have.
Yours truly,
