Fox Dora Sendejas APR 6 1981 0-7 Monsanto Co. 0-23HEDICAL SECTION 0-2 TEXAS CITY, TX Howard Cole A key portion of the corporate safety policy states that we will provide a safe and healthful workplace for our employees and that to support this policy state ment we: Regularly monitor employee health, the work environment and develop ments in occupational medicine to detect and correct conditions which are hazardous to human health; Maintain at our location systematic programs for industrial hygiene and occupational health. The- x-rays that we provide our-employees are scheduled as follows: 1. Asbestos workers are provided an annual chest x-ray as required by the OSHA Standard for asbestos workers. 2. Painters are given an annual x-ray because of possible air-borne organic solvenc vapor, paint pigment, and silica dust exposures from sandblasting operations. 3. Acrylonitrile workers are offered an x-ray annually as required by the OSHA Standard for possible exposure to AN, but some do not go. 4. Cafeteria workers are offered an x-ray with every physical examination (about 18-month intervals). By policy, x-rays are required for cafteria workers. Drs. O'Bryant and Spraul agree. 5. Key personnel are required to have x-rays annually at their regular phy sical examination. (Some refuse them.) 6. All other employees are given an x-ray with every other physical exami nation (about 3-year intervals). If the employee has been x-rayed by their own doctor, this is acceptable and we record on the medical file the physician's name and/or hospital. (We write for copies for top five categories above and record location of the others.) 7. ARMS Project. X-rays may be required, depending upon the process and catalyst systems under study. Industrial hygiene is monitoring this and wllL specify when it will be required. At the time x-rays are requested, the reason will be specified. 8. Tankerocn's Certification Examination. X-rays are required as a part of this examination required by tiie Coast Guard. (One time thing.) In all these examinations and x-ray requirements, the purpose is to provlJe an indication of changes in worker health which nay have developed from any cause. The current Texas City policy regarding chest x-rays is to offer the employee the opportunity to receive the x-ray as required by governmental regulations or Monsanto DMEH recommendations. The employee is encouraged to take the exam but if for personal reasons he or she does not desire the exam, they may refuse.
