Please re fe r to your 3/4/74 le t t e r on the above subject. Re garding the 17.1 average asbestos fib e r level on block briquette press 15-7 i t is important to note that the tests producing th is re s u lt were made immediately upon completion o f the in s t a lla t io n of the exhaust v e n tila tio n system on th is press. As you know, th is is the press upon which we delayed in s ta lla t io n o f the exhaust v e n tila tio n system fo r business reasons. Thus, we believe the high fib e r level resulted more from the need to make the usual adjustments to a new in s t a lla t io n than from the actual c a p a b ility o f the system. In support o f th is b e lie f th is press now has. a 5.7 average asbestos fib e r le v e l, based on tests made on 2/28/74 - a month a fte r the in s t a lla t io n o f the exhaust^ventilation system. In s ta lla tio n of the automatic mix feed systemshould fu rth e r reduce the fib e r level to some value below the current 5.0 s p e c ific a tio n .
Your le t t e r also states that the reclaim room had 5 samples
exceeding 10 fib e rs . Here i t is important to note that these values
were based upon tests made on reclaim chopper 19-3 and 19-4 before
moving th is equipment in to the reclaim room. As you know, th is
move was made during our Christmas1973 shut down. The equipment w ill
operate in a closed room and be loaded from outside the room via ..a
conveyor system.
'
Referring to the chart attached to your 3/4/74 le t t e r we note a 6.2 fib e r level on the block external grinder from the January, 1974 sampling. This is an e rro r - the correct value is 1.6.
