T he sam ples w ere analyzed for P erfluorooctanoic A cid (C 8 A cid ) using liquid chrom atography
7 m ass spectrom etry (L C M S ). T h e m ethod em p lo y ed is entitled "M eth od o f A n alysis for the
D eterm ination o f P erfluorooctanoic A cid (P F O A ) in O V S A irtubes by L C M S " (Jam es M iller,
E xygen Research, February 1 7 ,2 0 0 3 ). :

T h e O V S tubes w ere separated into three fractions for sp ecific fluorochem ical analysis. Fraction A con sisted o f the filter, backing m aterial and p lastic ring. Fraction B contained the i first bed o f X A D resin and the P U F backing. Fraction C contained the secon d bed o f X A D resin and P U F backing. Fractions A and B w ere extracted w ith 1 m L o f m ethanol. Fraction C w as not analyzed but saved for p ossib le future analysis. P erfluorodecanoic A cid (CIO A cid) w as added as a surrogate sp ik e to each fraction prior to extraction.

Total minutes column is the reading from the monitor counter. * Pump AMS-4 had an intake fault icon on the display and had stopped running at 957 minutes. When brought back for
post calibration pump would run for 10 to 15 seconds with a flow of 1.190 and then stop again with the fault icon
showing.
