J. P. Hayes has requested that the membership consider the Association undertaking an investigative study to determine if this subject is a problem for our industry that requires Association action. Attached is an explanatory letter from Mr. A. H. Fay of Na tional Gypsum Company who has had a good deal of experience in this area. Because this subject has appeared on the agendas of both the Safety and Technical Corn,mi ttees, and because both committees are presently meeting, we have asked them to discuss this subject and to make any appropriate recommendations. The Technical Committee discussed this subject last week and it appears that several of the members have had test programs which have attempted to measure the asbestos fiber content from the dust resulting in the sanding of joint compound. The Safety Committee wi11 meet next week and will discuss this subject from the knowledge and experience the members have had in the industrial health area. In the meantime, the staff will follow up Mr. Fay's sugges tion of consulting other Associations who have had similar programs. As always, we solicit your comments and recommendations for expeditious action in this situation should there be no objection to the Associa tion investigating such a program.
