Plant on June 26, 1978, by Dr. Oran Steffey, Medical Division, Industrial Hygienist. Dr. Steffey was accompanied by Dr. J. R. Druowright, Assistant Medical Director. Steffey July 3, 1978 ANNUAL INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE INSPECTION - LAKE CHARLES VCM PLANT An Industrial Hygiene Inspection was made of the Lake Charles VCM Plant on June 26, 1978. The purpose of the Inspection was to physically check the installation from the standpoint of OSHA standards which cover General Environmental Control-Sanitation, and the presence of and use of toxic and hazardous materials in the workplace. The following areas were covered from a general industrial hygiene standpoint: Main Offices Warehouse Maintenance Instrument Shop Laboratory Control Building Tank Storage and Loading Racks General Processing Units For the most part all areas were found to be in good shape. The following comments are made relative to the plant: The shop toolroom is entirely too small to accommodate all materials which are stored. Space needs to be expanded or a new and larger tool room needs to be constructed to effectively accommodate all items stored in this area. In the control room the refrigerator was found very dirty. This needs to be defrosted, cleaned, and should be maintained in a sanitary condition. The oven needs to be cleaned and maintained. The loading racks, which were to be expanded as of last year, have been expanded. The dual waste incinerator system is well into construction but contractor labor problems have held up the finishing of this project. Since we are also making visits to the Lake Charles Chemical Plant on Tuesday, June 27, add to the Lake Charles Concarb Plant on Wednesday, June 28, we would like to keep this schedule.
