Dear Dr. Kehoe: We have had some discussion here in the office as to whether it is advisable to continue to use the screen in our ETHYL fluid line from the drum to the eductor. I think Sieb discussed this with Eddie Walter during his recent trip with Ed. Attached hereto is copy of memorandum from Dr. Edgar on the subject. It will be a simple matter to take the bowl with the screen in it out of the line on any new sets that are shipped. With regard to sets now in the field, our field men at their convenience could also arrange to remove this bowl and screen, making a straight run of pipe to the eductor. After talking the matter over with Dr. Calingaert and after examination of certain samples of sludge from ETHYL fluid, I am willing to agree with your recommendation that the filter be removed from our Eductor system. It is at present much too small to be of muchuise and could not be increased to a size which would be really effective without serious inconvenience. Most of the sludge is probably soluble in gasoline anyway and it would not matter much if it was sucked over into the gasoline.
