Jenner Chief, Utilities Branch Industrial Division Gentlemen: Reference is made to our letter of June 24, 1947, a copy of which is enclosed, notifying you that Southern Alkali Corporation would take over the operation of the power plant at Lake Charles, Louisiana, on August 1, 1947, and requesting that the plant be turned over to us in a shut-down condition on that date* As stated in that letter, it was our intention to keep the plant shut down for a period of ten (10) to fifteen (15) days following August 1, 1947, in order to make certain changes and repairs. Ye are now informed that a shut-down of the power plant prior to August 0, 1947, will cause great hardship to Gulf States Utilities Company and some of its customers. Accordingly, at the request of Gulf States Utilities Company we hereby amend our notification of June 24, 1947, by changing the date on which we will take over operation of the power plant at Lake Charles, Louisiana, from August 1, 1947 to August 20, 1947. This amendment is made upon the following conditions: 1. That the power plant at Lake Charles, Louisiana, will be turned over to us on August 0, 1947, in a shut-down condition. 2. That, notwithstanding the change in the date of taking over operation of the power plant from August 1, 1947, to August 0, 1947, the permission granted by Yi'ar Assets Administration in its letter dated July 18, 1947, copy attached, to make a con tract to sell up to 000 kilowatts of power per hour to Mathiescn Alkali fiorks, Inc. be continued in effect. | BB 0003277_^ War Assets Administration -2- July 23, 1947 * It is our plan to keep the power plant in a shut-down condition for not longer than fourteen (14) days after August 0, 1947, in order to make certain changes and. repairs* It will be appreciated if you will acknowledge receipt of this letter and state your assent to the change in the take over date from August 1, 1947, to August 20, 1947.
