Hawkins Process Engineer Reference: Asbestos-Cement Furnish Dispersion Dear Mr. Hawkins: I thank you for your sample which you have forwarded to my attention for evaluation. We can make recommendations based on inspection only. Since my conversation with Rosco on this particular application, our C-E Environmental Group has advised that no C-E Facility will process an asbestos base or asbestos related fiber through our C-E Bauer Labora tory. Therefore, I was unable to make a new handsheet to determine if an in-line mixer or grinder would improve your dispersion. However, I did make a slurry of material as described in your February 26 letter, and based on previous experience with disc milling and wet grinding, I feel that you could improve the quality of the sheet with a medium plate or coarse devil toothed plate. As mentioned, I can not test the material in our Springfield Laboratory, however, I will have a 148-48" Single Disc Mill available for testing within approximately 30 days. This mill would be less drive but would include various styles of plate patterns and we would recommend a RPM and approximate capacities.
