Meek ATlantic 1-4545, Ext. 465 For release in morning newspapers Dated Thursday, March 10, 1960, Or anytime thereafter March 10, 1960 Aluminum Company of xica today announced preparations to start a sixth potline at its Point Comfort (Tex.) works, bringing the operation within 20,000 tons of its annual rated capacity of 140,000 tons of primary metal. Thomas F. Anderson, smelting works manager, said present plans call for starting the line on March 16, and that it will provide employment for approximately 80 additional people. Mr. Anderson noted that the line to be started is one which has been under construction for the past two years, but the completion of which has been deferred because aluminum supply haB temporarily exceeded demand. It is being placed in service now, in preference to the one original potline still idle, because the new facility can be expected to utilize electric power with greater efficiency than its older counterparts. The new Point Comfort line is one of several idle smelting units which Alcoa has activated in recent months as the demand for aluminum has picked up.
