Dear Doctor Sayers:- A few days ago I received a letter from Graham Edgar telling me of his conversation with you in New York concerning some alleged cases of lead poisoning in employees of the DuPont Company in the Baton Rouge plant. I have no doubt Edgar was able to give you most of the information which you required at that tine to appraise the situation, but it may be that you would like to have additional information. I am planning to be in Wilmington on Thursday, January 16th* and if you should wish to see me on the day before or the day after, I could make it a point to stop off in Washington for this purpose. We have been obtaining more and more precise and adequate information concerning the study of men engaged in the manufacture of tetraethyl lead, and there is no question that the hygienic status of these plants has been greatly improved over that existing in the period from 1926 to 1930. Moreover our control of this whole matter and of the finances which might be Involved in making changes or Improvements are such that nothing can stand in the wey of procedures or changes which seem to be advisable from the point of view of safety. I should be glad to discuss this whole matter with you at such length as you may wish. I recognize* however, that you are a busy man, as I am, and if, therefore, you do not wish to take the time to go i"urther into this at present, you need only so indicate.
