Mirer The following Issues were discussed at the monthly meeting which was held In conference room 210-WHQ. OSHA FORM 102 Kovacich Indicated that he was discussing the Summary of Occupational Illnesses and Injuries recently provided by the Company with the unit health and safety representatives and hoped that Company peraonnel were doing the same. We Indicated that perhaps both parties could more effectively use the form if they had a better understanding of lta -- purpose and content* On this basis we agreed to including a session on the OSHA form 102 at the June training conference* HAZARDOUS MATERIALS - Kovacich requested an update on how many plants were provided a revised by-piant Hatardous Materials Catalog. We responded that the Company provided revised by-plant catalogs to Saline, Mt. Clemens and Lorain. Kovacich asked about the status of the Union's request at Monroe* I responded that the local partiea resolved that issue by the Company identifying (by marking) materials in the Master Company-wide catalog which were used at Monroe. Kovacich requested that we notify all the plants to provide a local by-plant catalog to the unit health and safety representative. We Indicated that we could not do this on a company wide basis but would be willing to assist any locations where such an issue became a problem as we have done In the past. Kovacich was not satisfied with this response and stated that this issue would be addressed In national negotiations. roar izap stamdard The union members were provided a copy of the March 19, 1979 Employe Health Bulletin on the new lead standard resulting from the recent Circuit Court stay* The recently developed video tape training pre sentation was also previewed at the meeting. Mirer questioned Toth about how air aaopla readings and blood lead teat results would be communicated to the hourly employes. Toth indicated that air sample readings would be posted in the work areas and blood lead test results would be provided in writing to the employes through the Medical Depart ment. Mirer also asked about the status of monitoring results under the air supplied hood. Toth also provided the union members vijh an update on the Compuiy's request for a variance. , Kovacich mentioned that the new lead standard requirements were minimal in his judgment. X stated that such a statement surprised me because high ranking UAH officials hailed the success of the new lead standard. Kovacich mentioned that the exposure of employes to lead might prompt union demands for more relief for these employes. I mentioned that the subject of relief was not proper subject matter for the Health and Safety committee. TDI The Union advised that they were still receiving complaints from employes at Utica with respect to exposure to TDI. The union alleged that the Company was doing an unsatisfactory air sampling job as evidenced by the fact that the Company had only one piece of air sampling equipment and frequently this equipment was out of service. The union also stated that eleven employes were sensitised to TDI according to the Company's entries on OSHA form 102. Mirer also indicated that Company industrial.hygiene representatives owed him survey results following their meeting at Otior on February 8, 1979. I registered some surprise that problems continued at Utica as 1 was not aware of any complaints registered by Company or union personnel for the past several months. With respect to the one piece of monitoring equipment at Utica, Toth Indicated that this type'of equipment may not be sensitive enough to do the job so the Company was looking at improved engineering (ventilation) controls. He advised the Union that we would investigate their complaints and have further dis cussion at next month's meeting. ASBESTOS Toth advised the union members that the Company was developing a Company wide list of employes exposed to asbestos for purposes of providing annual medical examinations to these employes. Paul also mentioned that facilities which used asbestos on a relatively large scale such as Sheffield and Sheldon Road no longer use asbestos. He acknowledged that there may be some traces of asbestos dust in the packaging of broke linings and clutch plates, but surveys Indicated these levels were almost negligible. The Union asked us to consider providing annual medical examinations to employes previously exposed to asbestos who were presently disabled but not yet retired..
