I am reaching out today to set up a meeting between AAP and Administrator Pruitt per the letter sent by your president, Fernando Stein. If you would kindly fill out the attached request form we can begin the process of getting this meeting on the calendar. I look forward to working with you both! I am president of the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, DC - a non-partisan, non-advocacy environment law and policy think-tank. ELI has been a fixture in the environmental law and policy space for nearly 50 years, as a convener, researcher, educator and publisher. It's membership and financial support are centered in the private sector (businesses and law firms), although its diverse membership also includes organizations like the Environmental Defense fund and some other environmental groups. ELI is seen as one of the few organizations in Washington capable of providing a truly neutral platform for discussing environmental law and policy reform. It has also provided objective research products for governments (federal, state, and local) of all political stripes throughout its history. Its annual award dinner every October, which attracts towards a 1000 attendees, is the nation's key gathering of leaders in environmental law and policy, and offers a unique and apolitical mixing zone. Last year ELI honored former Bush-era Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson for his work in China. In our meeting, I would congratulate the Administrator on his appointment, wish him a successful tenure, and explore how ELI could be helpful to him in his efforts at EPA. Possible examples include pulling people together to share or test ideas, providing analysis of different regulatory or organizational reform options, and the like. We have a Leadership Council that includes 80 of some of the best environmental practitioners in the country that serves as our primary advisory body. We like to pull them together from time-to-time with government leaders for off-the-record conversations about priorities and challenges. It's a great way to test ideas and to generate thought or support. It would be wonderful, and I think useful all around, if we could connect Administrator Pruitt with this group. We are planning a Leadership Council national convening in DC within the next several months that might serve as a great point of entry. I should note I come from background that includes both private sector experience and high-level service at EPA (and DOJ) in both Republican and Democratic administrations. I am very much committed to smart, innovative government in the environmental arena - a core objective of ELI. 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. EPA ED_001523B_00004653-00001 Please let me know if scheduling a meet and greet would be possible. My scheduler, Rose Edmonds, is copied here, and can follow up with to find a time, as appropriate. Thanks for giving this your consideration. All the best, Scott Fulton President Environmental Law Institute www.eli.org 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. EPA ED_001523B_00004653-00002
