C. 20204 Dear Heinz: We will have in publication soon, a revised CTFA Standard for Cosmetic Talc, which will include a specification for Fibrous Amphibole at "None Detected" using a new method involving X-ray diffraction and microscopy with dispersion staining. Some time ago, Professor Seymour Lewin evaluated 195 cosmetic talcum powders obtained from the marketplace, and detected tremolite in several, using X-ray diffraction. We would like to evaluate some of the same samples, applying our latest CTFA methodology, and it would be of particular interest to do some of the ones which showed high levels of tremolite, or which were questionable. About 5 grams of each would be sufficient, and 10 samples would be a good number to do.
