He are enclosing copies of a report previously furnished to Mr. Maloney on results of air samples taken in December, 1965. To the particle dust counts and fiber counts previously furnished, we have added the counts of fibers longer than 5p. These >5|i fiber counts may be compared with the limit of 5 fibers/ml recommended by the Threshold Limit Value Committee of the American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists. We would caution that these results cannot be compared to the TLV to determine whether or not a worker at your factory has or has not developed asbestosis. Asbestosis is a disease contracted some years after first exposure, and these 1965 results say nothing about any individuals' prior exposure. These TLV's are the best guidelines for dust control presently available, but there is no absolute guarantee that some worker might not eventually develop asbestosis even if not exposed above the current TLV. For your information, we are also enclosing results of the July, 1969, dust sampling.
